Man, last night was such an intense shit... even though it could be much, much, more intense. Frankly speaking. Urusan nggresulo (a.k.a menggerutu) serta mengungkapkan rasa kurang puas bisa disusul belakangan. But if anything, attending Ambitions Asia Tour Live in Singapore makes me wanna go all the way and see ONE OK ROCK concert in their home base: Japan.
How cool. Pesaing berat tampaknya ya cuma Yapan, yang mana hadirin konser rata-rata membentuk antrian hanya sekitar 90 menit sebelum jam pertunjukan mulai daaaaan acaranya tetap berjalan sesuai jadwal. Military precision level of shit.
Kuliner haram always to the rescue.
Jam di ponsel saya menunjukkan angka 20:15 ketika lampu venue dipadamkan. Penonton bersorak. Saya berteriak. Mati-matian berusaha menahan diri agar nggak pingsan nggeblak. It's real. This is real. Holy hell. Oh god the spotlights are so pretty even though I still can't see anybody on stage... damn, Ambitions -introduction- instrumental and Bombs away's intro feel really majestic when played in a big place like this w-w-w-wait is that Taka coming up―
"This is the end of you and me..."
I'M DEAD. And in that moment, I was floored; pinned down by immense disbelief, giddy with excitement and happiness.
Their look that night. (Official documentary by JulenPhoto.)
This concert rants and review will be unbelievably long, so brace yourself.
- M1. Ambitions -instrumental- + Bombs away (english version)
Langsung lemes dengkul beta.
Singalong? Oh, yes. SO FUCKING YES. Bahkan sebelum pulih dari initial shock and disbelief, bagaikan refleks alamiah mulut saya sudah bergerak, turut menyanyikan lirik demi lirik bersama Taka meskipun saya tetap keukeuh singalong pakai lirik versi album rilisan Jepang di verse kedua. Bodo amat. Taka aja sempat rada lupa yang versi Inggris. Geblek bener. Well, I cannot blame him though. After all, "Tsukeiru subenaku tada tachisukushita, sakebu koe munashiku to fade to black" is far more impressive and heartfelt than "Can you open up my eyes let me see what I've become, can you cover up my scars everyone". Tapi ya sudahlah. No matter which version of their song was sung, ONE OK ROCK sounded awesome from the get-go. Tick tick tock and it's bombs away!
- M2. Deeper Deeper
The whole stadium went insane in an instant. I shit you not. Everyone was like, "YAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSS!!!" and I saw hands up everywhere, the audiences were busy jumping up and down. You folks are awesome crowd, I swear. To this second I still get chills running along my spine remembering how everybody―I mean it when I write EVERYBODY―sang the bridge "We never, we never, we will not stop right here WE NEVER, WE NEVER, WE WILL NOT STOP RIGHT HERE" together, very loud and clear.
This man is hot like hell and I'll voluntarily get burned. (Official documentary by JulenPhoto.)
But the moment that made me so close to death from bursting heart was when the chorus "The deep deep deeper we go" came and TORU WAS SPINNING WITH ONE LEG UP AT THE CENTER OF THE STAGE oh lord that move is fucking real I finally see it with my own eyes. Damn those long legs. Yamashita Toru is a dangerous man, indeed. Dia nunduk main gitar sambil godek-godekin kepala aja kerennya nggak ketulungan. Kayaknya setelah konser kelar saya perlu beli testpack. Siapa tahu positif hamil cuma gara-gara berada dalam satu ruangan dengan Toru selama 100 menit.
- M3. Taking Off (english version)
"Realizing everything I love is slowly killing me..." oh yes Taka you are soooo killing me. Drag me all the way to hell, ONE OK ROCK. I won't ever refuse. In fact, I'll be gladly stuck in the same routine and living in an empty dream if when I'm wake up you're right in front of me just like this.
- M4. Cry Out (35xxxv Deluxe album edition)
I'm fucked. For real. There, I said it. Cry Out is a mid-tempo song which is considerably calmer than, let's say, the previously performed Deeper Deeper.. until Toru screamed "Voices all arooound! Cause we're going doooown!" with his deeper-than-Mariana-trench voice and I almost came in my pants. Bless whoever set up his microphone last night because it was megaloud; his harmonization and back-up singing were all crystal clear.
Gemes. Ice breaking banget gara-gara banyak penonton ketawa dan akhirnya rame-rame ngasih sorakan penyemangat. They all spoke in English. Taka bilang, ini keempat kalinya mereka datang ke Singapura (and inwardly I thought, "Makanya elu gantian mampir Indonesia lagi kek! That dude sure loves to insert 'fucking' in his speech, though. Wis mbuh lah semalem ada berapa kali Taka ngomong, "Are you fucking ready for this???" atau "You guys know you're fucking great, huh?"
Good luck deh buat para orang tua yang ngajakin anak-anaknya nonton konser ONE OK ROCK.

- M5. Re:make
Lagu kedua dari album lawas selain Cry Out. It was incredibly nice to hear something from 残響リファレンス (Zankyou Reference) because the album is lit. Hands down. And finally―FREAKING FINALLY―we could hear Japanese verses making their way out smoothly from Taka's lips. ONE OK ROCK with Japanese lyrics gave me unexplainable emotions, and whilst this might be just my own imagination clouded with biased judgment, they somehow sounded far more in their element. Shouting "Another day, another way!!" with thousands of people after Taka's "I'd see you" was beyond satisfying.
Tomoya was just there being... Tomoya. (Official documentary by JulenPhoto.)
- M6. Clock Strikes
After Re:make, Clock Strikes from 人生x僕= (Jinsei Kakete Boku wa) began. Clock Strikes without that move won't feel the same, after all.
However, despite the early dejection, Clock Strikes still left me speechless and trembling all over because the crowd (including me) switched on their phone lights and waved their hands during the bridge, chanting "Woooow oooh oooh ooooh" endlessly until Tomoya's drum kicked in again―after Taka showed off his vocal capability with a long-ass "Believe that time is always foreveeeer woooh aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah". My heart soared high to heaven and back. What a precious moment. I will keep this memory till the end.
- M7. Bedroom Warfare (english version)
Lagu ngewe internasional. Pardon my language but that is true so what else could I say??? The mood change in the venue was incredible, really. Suasana setengah sendu sebagai efek samping dari Clock Strikes dalam sekejap berubah panas―to say the least―dengan vokal Taka yang agak-agak whispery di bagian verse. Cherry on top: they finished up Bedroom Warfare with a jamming session... which once again brought the cameras into focus on Toru and Ryota's hands and Tomoya's drumming. Bye-bye my sanity. Nice to know you all these years.
- M8. Wherever you are
Finally a song from ONE OK ROCK Starter Kit. I'm kidding... not. Termasuk saya sendiri. Everyone was singing along while waving their hands again, of course with phone lights switched on.

Have I told you that Morita Takahiro sounded awesome live? Even more impressive than the recording? If I had, then I'll gladly say it again: MORITA TAKAHIRO IS ONE HELL OF A VOCALIST. How he manages to sound dark and intense but next goes smooth and calming never fails to awe me. Thank you Yamashita Toru for being a headstrong, annoying fucker because without your persistence we wouldn't have Taka in ONE OK ROCK.
- M9. One Way Ticket (english version)
Seolah-olah belum cukup mengubah Singapore Indoor Stadium jadi beratmosfir mellow, ONE OK ROCK menghantam lagi dengan One Way Ticket. One Way Ticket as a recorded song is mediocre at best, but when it is sung live... for the love of god, it's beautiful. Toru's guitar intro even got new arrangement and it was Brilliant with a capital B. I love it. I freaking love it. It was a nice, surprising touch.

- M10. Instrumental break
I don't care what you say but this instrumental break was absolutely the most dangerous session for my both physical and psychological health. Sementara Taka menghilang sejenak untuk istirahat dan minum, Ryota, Toru, dan Tomoya mendapat kesempatan unjuk gigi kedua setelah jamming session pasca Bedroom Warfare. I should tell y'all that Toru, with all his glory, clad in his drenched-in-sweat tanktops, was on the main screen for approximately 30 seconds long in total and I nearly fainted from the heat he emanated.
Capek??!!!

- M11. Bon Voyage (english version)
Yes yes yes YEEEEEEEES. Fucking finally. Bon Voyage was one of a few tracks from Ambitions album which stole my heart since the first listen―the other ones are Bombs away and We Are. I squealed like a mad girl as I saw Taka, Ryota, and Toru lined up on stage and did a short, simple dance together; spinning around and headbanging in sync. Three steps forward, three steps back, pirouette, a little headbang, repeat. Damn, that bit was pure gold.
Terus Taka lagi-lagi lupa lirik, dong. Kedua kalinya dalam semalam. Gemes anjir. He forgot the "In all these memories we know this die, nothing but memories" part and tried to hide it with incoherent mumbles because I'm sure the one he remembers by heart is "Netsu ga futatsu wo hikiawase, samete shimaeba" just like I do. It's alright, Taka. We still love you.
- M12. I was King (english version)
Duh Gusti Nu Agung.. intro I was King versi rekaman CD aja udah bikin merinding saking berasa anthemic. Hearing it live was making me stunned. And the second Taka stopped singing so everyone could go all out like a choir with continuous "If I go down I will go down fighting, I'll go down, down like lightning" brought me to happy tears. You guys are still king, by the way. You reign strong.
Berapa pun upetimu akan kubayar. (Source here.)
- M13. Take What You Want (english version)
This was where Taka showed off his "true" vocal skill. Aslinya sejak awal konser dia memang sudah terdengar seperti keturunan dewa rock jejepangan―if that kind of thing does exist―but in Take What You Want he went a capella for the chorus. It was a deafening silence, decorated with occasional screams of "Takaaaaaa!!!" and one loud, shameless request of "Continue pleeeeease????" coming from my back―which of course, provoked giggles here and there―before Taka belted out, "Can you hear meee?? I'm trying to hear you, silence strikes like a hurricaaaaane" in perfect pitch and successfully sent goosebumps all over my body.
The surprise didn't end there because as Take What You Want ended and everyone cheered, clapped, and even whistled, Taka stood upright on his mini podium, looked around for a sec and then HE MADE A SHAPE OF HEART WITH BOTH HANDS oh dear Lord I cried again. The crowd immediately returned the gesture; I could see heart-shaped hands on the air everywhere and it warmed my chest like a bonfire. Kita semua juga sayang kamu, mas. Sumpah. You guys are the sole reason why we all gathered here.

Clearer shot of the said phenomenal moment. (Official decumentary by JulenPhoto.)
Aw man, baper intensified.
- M14. The Beginning
"Don't worry, it's safe right here in my arms..." Another ONE OK ROCK Starter Kit. Chosen for 2012's Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Romantan's theme song, The Beginning sure became many people's entrance gate to the fandom. Take my haaaaaand and bring me baaaaack yeah!"
You give me a reason to keep my heart beating, you know. Thank you for that. Sepanjang The Beginning, singalong game amat sangat stronk. Beberapa kali Taka berhenti nyanyi dan membiarkan penonton menyahut lantang sembari lonjak-lonjak, "So stand up, stand up, just wanna keep it, I wanna wake up, wake up, just tell me how I can never give up" seolah-olah malam itu adalah pertunjukan kolaborasi antara ONE OK ROCK dengan penggemar mereka.
- M15. Mighty Long Fall (35xxxv Deluxe edition)
It was red. RED ALL OVER. If Wherever you are and Take What You Want are heartwarming, then The Beginning is a buildup and Mighty Long Fall is the scorching hot volcano. Every time the guitar riffs came, both screen showed Toru's skillful hands in extra closeup and I had to remind myself for the umpteenth time to buy a testpack later after show just to make sure I'm not impregnated. Also, I know I've been saying how great was the crowd last night, but the "Woooo oooh" from audience following "Don't goooo it's a mighty long fall when you thought love was the top" was almost too passionate to take. Anjir lah bikin merinding banget pokoknya.
It's a wake-up call, fellas. (Official documentary by JulenPhoto.)
DON'T GO, GUYS. DON'T YOU EVER GO. (Official documentary by JulenPhoto.)
The crowd even successfully pulled off a few circle/mosh pits and wall of death as instructed by Taka, even if the security guards tried so hard to stop us. Lmao. During Mighty Long Fall even three guards were attempting to stop mosh pits from happening―due to security concerns, I know―but if a circle got cancelled, people started making it in another area. Ngehek, memang. Tapi ya gimana lagi... Taka wanted mosh pits and walls of death! Para penonton sebagai hamba-hambanya harus nurutin, dong.
- M16. We Are (english version)
Freaking heavenly. Taka did not sing the first verse at all; it was the crowd's job. Keputusan bijak sih sebenarnya, karena di bait kedua verse awal Taka lagi-lagi lupa lirik versi bahasa Inggris. Paham kok, mas. Why sing "They think we are made up of all our failures, they think we are foolish and that's how the story goes" when you can totally have "Yume wa owari me wo samasu toki, zetsubou ya kibou mo douji ni me wo samashita"?
Setelah We Are usai digeber, seluruh personel ONE OK ROCK keluar panggung satu per satu. But the fans were having none of it so we shouted, "Encore! Encore! Encore!" and called out each of their name until everyone stepped back on stage. Enak aja mau nyuruh bubar sekarang. Balik naik panggung, sini! Kita semua tahu pas Live in Bangkok masih ada dua lagu lagi.
- ENCORE: M17. American Girls
Saya sendiri nggak peduli-peduli amat dengan American Girls karena lebih B-rated dibandingkan One Way Ticket, namun sewaktu Taka mengubah lirik chorus menjadi "Come on, break my heart you Singapore girls", saya yang bahkan sama sekali bukan orang Singapura ikut menjerit histeris. Berasa turut kegeeran padahal nggak disepik gebetan.
Taka gondrong lagi. (Official documentary by JulenPhoto.)
Emang dasar Taka suka iseng, ya. Selesai membawakan American Girls―yang mana tentu saja disambut gemuruh tepuk tangan plus sorakan riuh penonton―Taka justru bersikap seolah-olah sambutan untuk encore nggak kedengaran, kurang gahar, dan berlagak mengajak rekan-rekannya balik masuk backstage lagi. Kampret.
Nice info, gan. Hanya saja yang bikin saya kesel terkena PHP 100% adalah sebelum Taka ngomong, Ryota, Tomoya, dan Toru sempat memainkan intro Let's take it Someday yang jelas bikin saya kepedean menduga-duga. "EH MASA SIH MAU BAWAIN LET'S TAKE IT SOMEDAY??? BOHONG???" Lah, emang beneran dibohongin. Curut semua elu-elu pada.
- ENCORE: M18. Dreamer (Kanzen Kankaku Dreamer)
I wanted you guys to perform Liar so bad). Everyone brought up their last spurt of wildness, jumping up and down like crazy, and sang along together from the top of our lungs because we knew that this was truly the end of our party. Oh, how we wanted to not let this night end here because we didn't get it enough...
I'll be out here waiting for the next chance we get to meet. (Official documentary by JulenPhoto.)
After the booming applause and roaring cheers ended (yang berlangsung selama enam alif saking panjangnya), all members bowed to us and waved their hands.
Saya aja nggak sempat rekam-rekam apa pun saking khusyuk beribadah??
(Not mine, but can't track back the source. Sorry.)
(Not mine, but can't track back the source. Sorry.)
Then of course, it was time to gather up and pose for the mandatory group shot.
You won't be able to spot me but I swear I was there I was witnessing it all.

WHAT. A. NIGHT.
Yet despite all those unimportant, selfish complaints, last night was a total blast, one of the best time I've ever experienced all these years I've been living. Saya juga yakin, Taka minimal skincare-nya pakai serentengan produk SK-II. Sebab demi segala Gusti yang pernah disembah umat manusia, itu kulit muka bener-bener kelihatan kayak pantat bayi. Lembut, bening, enyoy-enyoy.
Tapi bahkan di mata saya, gemes-gemesnya Taka tetep nggak sanggup mengalahkan kedahsyatan pesona aura Yamashita Toru sang gitaris. Kacau. Toru ini udah macem biohazard. Dia cukup berdiri santai rada ngangkang sambil konsentrasi main gitar, maka secara otomatis testosteronnya seolah luber ke mana-mana nggak terkendali. Belum lagi kalau dese mulai headbang. Atau jejingkrakan. Nendang-nendang kaki ke udara. Nge-backup vokal di sejumlah bagian lagu dengan power max 100% sampai-sampai liurnya Japanese holy water muncrat-muncrat laksana hujan lokal. Menyambar mikrofon dan berseru, "See you guys, thank you!!!" sesaat sebelum keluar panggung. Aduh, mak.
What else did you expect?
ONE OK ROCK nggak mampir Indonesia pasti gara-gara Toru gagal lolos sertifikasi halal MUI.

See you again, ONE OK ROCK. Hopefully within months instead of years.

Setlist nya luar biasa banget. Intro live nya One Way Ticket berhasil bikin merinding hihihi. Nice review, by the way!
ReplyDeleteOke ini akan terdengar sangat tidak bersyukur tapi setlist-nya nggak "luar biasa" aaaah, soalnya nggak ada Answer is Near, Let's Take It Someday, 20/20, serta banyak anthem-anthem OOR lainnya. Hahaha.
Delete(Pemirsa yang serakah, memang.)
Baca review ini sambil dengerin playlist OOR --> Baper tingkat dewa.
ReplyDeleteTapi terima kasih udah share ceritanya, at least bisa ikut membayangkan keriuhan disana :"). Nyesel banget ngga beli tiket di Bangkok/SG, sempet berharap mereka akan mampir ke Jakarta karena kan katanya "More to be announced". Ternyata PHP..
Amiin!!!
DeleteIni harusnya kasih warning dulu di intro klo isi postingannya rated +19 :))))) wkwkwkwk sumpah saat baca diriku ingin sambil dengerin lagunya, tapi apa daya hp cmn 1 dan youtube ga bisa kyk spotify :")
ReplyDeleteKan Spotify bisa disetel pakai laptooop aduh do not rich people difficult :(((((
DeleteAku suka baca review kamu, terlihat betapa girangnya kamu nonton konser ini. :')
